So you’ve bagged yourself a date. That was the easy part. Now you’ve actually got to go. And we know, it can be daunting.

You hardly know this person, and you want to make a good impression, so let us help you get ready for the big date. We’ll have you feeling confident, positive and prepped in no time with our top tips.

First things first, if you need any advice, or tips on the dating game, head over to our friends at Miingle, who are sure to have the answers to any questions you might have.

Choosing the right outfit

When it comes to deciding what to wear, you may think it’s a simple thing. But trust us, it’s really not.

There’s a lot we can communicate about ourselves, and attitudes and values, by the way we dress, so think about what you want to say with your outfit.

For example, if you’re going for dinner, it’s probably best to avoid overly casual clothes (men who wear joggers to dates, we’re looking at you).

You don’t want your date to think that you’re not bothered, lazy or rude, so your choice of clothes should reflect that.

Similarly though, you don’t want to come across too eager, or risk making them feel lazy, so let’s avoid the ball gowns or festival fits. Depending on the activity, you need to make sure you dress suitably (i.e. no stilettos if you’re going to mini-golf), but otherwise, see it as an opportunity to show some personality.

The clothes that look best on are the clothes you feel the best in, so play around with colours and styles until you find something that you feel comfortable and confident in.

Next is makeup. And fellas, there’s no shame in you enhancing your natural beauty too, so get a fresh haircut, your eyebrows done, or pop some foundation on, whatever makes you feel good.

For the makeup lovers out there, we have one message: express yourself! The best thing about makeup is that it’s art, and a way to express our personalities while giving us a great boost of confidence.

The thing to remember is that we should try to use it positively, not as a way to hide, but a way to feel good and enhance what is already beautiful about ourselves.

So go easier on the contouring and sculpting to try to create a face that isn’t yours, your date wants to get to know you, not an Instagram photo.

So as long as you’re wearing makeup for the right reasons, there’s no limit on how much to wear, or how.

Choosing the right attitude

The most important thing you need to “get ready” is your attitude. Dating someone new can be scary, and it’s normal to feel nervous and unsure. But the more time you spend in your head, the less you’ll actually be able to enjoy the date.

You’re great the way you are, so try not to overthink what you do or say too much. Keeping a positive outlook, and trying not to worry too much, is the best thing you can do so that you come across as your authentic self.

So what are you waiting for? Go get ‘em tiger!
