cbd oil rheumatoid arthritis

As a natural option to traditional medicine, CBD has been a point of interest for its health benefits, as demonstrated in clinical trials.

While CBD is derived from the cannabis plant, it is its non-psychoactive component (as opposed to THC (which is known to cause psychoactive effects or cause one to get that “high”). Neither has CBD been found to cause any addiction or chemical dependency.

CBD flower is one such product that is versatile as you can use it for vaping or even create your edibles and hemp oils with it.

How does CBD work to improve one’s health?

Epilepsy/Seizures

In June 2018 and after exhaustive clinical trials, the USFDA approved Epidiolex (a purified form of CBD oil) for reducing seizures due to certain types of epilepsy.

Further studies, both completed and ongoing, even stated that CBD might be added to the antiepileptic drug for treatment-resistant epilepsy in younger patients.

Anxiety and Depression

In 2017, a survey was conducted among those suffering from anxiety. They swapped their anti-anxiety medications for cannabis. 40% of them attested that CBD was more effective in relieving their anxiety.

A Brazilian study supports the findings of this survey wherein a 300mg dose of CBD significantly reduced anxiety before a simulated public speaking test.

CBD for Insomnia

A study published in Permanente Journal determined the effect of CBD on insomnia and anxiety among 72 participants. The subjects were given 25 mg CBD in capsule form. Participants with insomnia took CBD at night, while those with anxiety took their CBD in the morning.

One month after, the results marked a significant improvement in both groups. 66% reported less trouble sleeping than those with insomnia, while those with anxiety reported marked improvement in 79% of the participants.

Another study published in Medicines (Basel) collected data from June 2016 to May 2018 to determine the effect of CBD on insomnia among 409 participants. Their insomnia scores were determined between 1-10, with 10 being the most severe.

On average, the participants had an insomnia score of 6.6. Post-study results revealed that the insomnia score overall was reduced to 2.2, indicating a significant sleep improvement.

CBD for Relief from Chemotherapy Side Effects

According to Healthline, CBD proved promising as a complementary treatment for cancer as it alleviates nausea and vomiting brought about by chemotherapy.

There is also a gleam of hope in the future for CBD for cancer, as this study indicated that Cannabinoids could effectively modulate tumour growth in different in vitro and in vivo cancer models.

However, it appears that the anticancer effects depend on the cancer type and drug dose.

CBD and Blood Pressure

A double-blind study in 2017 involving nine healthy male volunteers aimed to establish the cardiovascular benefits of CBD. The results have been encouraging as they reduced blood pressure and stroke volume among the participants after receiving a 600 mg dose of CBD.

While the results were significant, it is important to consult with a medical professional as more studies are still being undertaken.

Neuroprotective Effects

While researchers have yet to find a piece of conclusive evidence on CBD’s therapeutic benefits for those diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease, there have been promising findings in vitro studies.

As for Parkinson’s Disease, the result of a randomized controlled trial in 2014 involving 119 patients also casts some optimism and possible effects in improving the quality of life of PD patients, although a larger sample group and more specific objectives are required before any conclusion can be made.

Another study involving four patients, also in 2014, showed CBD to significantly reduce sleep disorders related to Parkinson’s Disease.

Skin Health and CBD

Another benefit of CBD that has been a subject of clinical investigation is its ability to reduce and control acne. This is because how CBD can control sebum production because of its sebostatic and anti-inflammatory properties.

CBD has also been reported to have antibacterial and antifungal effects, which can thus promote skin health. However, this still needs more studies on humans to arrive at a conclusive statement.

CBD on Reducing Pain and Inflammation

CBD’s effects on various pain and inflammation have been the subject of many preclinical trials and ongoing studies.

Studies on animals have demonstrated CBD’s effects in reducing pain and inflammation. According to arthritis.org, It further said that while no conclusive quality studies have been performed involving humans, some people who have arthritis have reported relief after using CBD.

This is not to say that CBD can replace traditional medicine for arthritis. It is important that people living with arthritis first consult a health care professional before trying CBD.

According to this report, even multiple sclerosis (MS) sufferers who experience pain due to severe spasms could find relief.

Aside from arthritis and pain due to MS, the report also indicated substantial evidence that CBD could offer an option to fight against general chronic pain.

Side effects

With all the CBD’s promising benefits, studies further reveal no tolerance build-up and minimal side effects with CBD.

There may be dry mouth, drowsiness, and diarrhea, and they may cause drug interaction with certain medications. CBD is generally well-tolerated and safe, whether orally, vaped or topically applied.
