Today, cannabis usage has become more acceptable than ever before and, in some countries, government are even going so far as legalizing it.
Despite this, many workplaces still have issues with their employees using marijuana recreational, or even medically. Therefore, it’s not unusual for them to conduct regular or random drug tests to make sure their employees aren’t not going against the company’s policy.
However, many marijuana users continue to smoke or consume cannabis regardless of their employer’s policy.
With that said, drug testing is extremely common in the workplace and if you’re a marijuana user, it’s important to understand how to be able to detox and remove THC from your system in a relatively short period of time.
Of course, if you’re employed at a workplace that has a strict drug and alcohol policy, we recommend that you avoid using marijuana at all times, since the following techniques are in no way guaranteed to work.
But, before we explain how to pass a urine drug test for marijuana quickly, let’s take a look at how our bodies store THC, the active ingredient in cannabis.
When a person smokes or consumes marijuana, THC levels quickly start to rise in their bloodstream. These THC molecules are then broken down into metabolites, which can linger in a person’s body for an extended period of time after having consumed marijuana.
THC and its metabolites have a half-life of only one week. This means that after a week, a person THC levels will have decreased by about 50%. Therefore, it can take anywhere between two to four weeks before a person’s system will be completely rid of any traces of THC.
However, there are many factors that can contribute to how long THC will remain detectable in your system. For example, the amount of marijuana, as well as the frequency of usage, are two of the biggest factors that will determine detection times. In other words, the more you consume, the longer it takes your body to detox.
Another important factor that determines how long THC will remain detectable is a person’s body fat level. THC is stored in a person’s fat cells, which means that the higher their body fat content, the more THC will be present in their body.
Additionally, different people have different metabolism rates, which will also affect how fast their bodies’ will be able to rid themselves of THC. Essentially, the faster your metabolism, the faster your body will rid itself of THC metabolites.
How to Prepare for a Marijuana Drug Test
Many companies do random drug testing in the workplace. This means that you won’t be given any notice and you won’t have any time to prepare for the test. In workplaces such as this, it’s best to abstain from using marijuana completely, since you never know when you might be asked to take a urine test.
On the other hand, some companies perform regular drug test, which means that employees will be given the exact date of the test.
Regardless, it’s important to begin preparing as soon as possible in order to increase your chances of passing a drug test for marijuana. But, it’s also important to understand that there are no guarantees or instant solutions that allow you to pass.
So, thinking that you can consume cannabis the day or night before your test, is not a very good way to go about it.
So, without further ado, let’s see what you can do to detox from marijuana in a week.
Abstinence is Key
If you know that you have a drug test in the near future, the best thing you can do is to stop smoking or consuming marijuana as soon as possible and abstain until after having taken the test.
This gives your body as much time as possible to detox your bloodstream naturally, making it harder to detect any traces of THC. Essentially, the longer you go without using, the better your chances of passing will be.
Healthy Diet and Exercise
Another good idea to help detox your body is to start eating a healthy well-balanced diet. It’s best to try and eat high-fiber foods that are rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. At all costs, avoid eating junk foods or foods that are high in fat, which tend to absorb THC and keep it stored in your body longer.
We also recommend that you exercise in order to boost your metabolism and sweat out the toxins that are present in your body. Just make sure to avoid exercising the day before your test because strenuous exercise has been known to increase THC levels in the bloodstream.
There are many detox products that can be purchased which help your system expel toxins and mask any that remain. These products are generally found in the form pills or drinks that are consumed the day of your drug test.
Most detox products use a diuretic, which stimulates your body’s need to urinate, and in turn, helps eliminate any traces of THC. Just remember that these products are not guaranteed to work and it’s best to use a combination of techniques to increase your chances of passing a drug test.

Typically, a marijuana drug test will be looking for a reading of at least 50ng/ml. Anything below this level will not usually cause you to fail the test. Therefore, drinking plenty of water before the test is a good way to help dilute your urine and help you pass.
Just make sure that you don’t consume too much water, since this is easily noticeable by most modern drug tests and will likely result in you needing to take the test again. So, while it can be a good idea to drink plenty of water to help detox your system, make sure to not overdo it and make it obvious.
For best results, drink 2 to 3 liters per day prior to test day. Then, on the day of the test, only drink 1 or 2 liters of water. Also, try to urinate as much as possible in the 24 to 48 hours before the test.
